William J. Riley founded the New Balance Arch Support Company in the Boston area, manufacturing arch supports and other accessories designed to improve shoe fit. His first product, a flexible arch support, was designed with three support points to provide greater balance and comfort in the shoe. It is believed that Riley came up with the name "New Balance" by observing chickens in his yard and demonstrated the way his arch supports worked by keeping a chicken foot on his office desk.

Design
Scenik is a typeface inspired by the modernist typography of Margate, a coastal town in the UK. Drawing on influences from the 1930s to the present day, it merges heritage and contemporary design features to create a versatile type family. The typeface offers an extensive array of options, including 142 styles, 13 weights, and 3 families. Its versatile range is designed for use in any application, regardless of size or scope. The standard cut of Scenik is designed specifically for punchy headlines and word marks, while the text cut is tailored for more subtle word marks and smaller body copy. The mono cut is ideal for monospaced applications and smaller body copy.
